Satan Tricks Adam and Eve
- Satan, in the form of a serpent, approached Eve and asked if God had really told her she could not eat from any tree. Eve told him that the only tree she couldn’t eat from was the one in the middle – the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil – otherwise she would die.
- Satan tells her that God only said not to eat from it because when she did, her eyes would be opened and she would be like God. So Eve, believing the devil, took the fruit and ate it in hopes of becoming wise and like God. Then she gave some to Adam, and he ate it too.
- The moment they ate the fruit, they knew they were naked, so they created apron-like girdles out of fig leaves.
- Then Adam and Eve heard God walking in the Garden and hid because they were scared. God called to Adam and asked him where he was. Adam responded that he heard God and hid because he was naked and scared.
- God asked Adam who told him that he was naked. He asked him if he had eaten from the tree that he was forbidden to eat from.
- Adam tells God that the woman (Eve) gave him fruit and so he ate it. God then asked Eve why she disobeyed Him, she told Him the serpent had tricked and deceived her.
- God knew the second Adam and Eve disobeyed Him. He didn’t have to ask Adam where he was, He already knew what had happened.
God is such a good God that He gives us free will. He could have stopped Adam and Eve from eating the fruit – He knows everything that happens before it ever happens. But God doesn’t force anyone to love Him, obey Him, or follow Him. He gives us the choice. He wants and desires for us to know and follow Him, but He never forces anyone.
- God knew the second Adam and Eve disobeyed Him. He didn’t have to ask Adam where he was, He already knew what had happened.
- The Lord tells the serpent that he is cursed above every single living creature, that he shall stay on his belly and eat dust the rest of his life. He tells him woman’s offspring would “bruise and tread [his] head underfoot and [he] will lie in wait and bruise His [man’s] heel.” (Genesis 3:8)
- Jesus died on the cross to defeat Satan for all of us. Satan no longer can defeat us, we will win against him every time if we trust God to fight with us against him.
- “I believe Adam was clothed with God’s glory before he sinned. As soon as Adam and Eve sinned, they realized they were naked. We might say that they lost their ‘covering’. As long as they obeyed God, they were protected from everything the devil wanted to do to them – and ultimately, through them. Upon seeing what the devil had done, God immediately announced Satan’s doom and told him how it would occur.
Satan did not really understand what God was saying; nevertheless, God said it, and it had to come to pass: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
To “bruise the head” symbolizes a weakening of authority. God has said that the woman’s Offspring (Jesus) will take away Satan’s authority. Satan will bruise Jesus’ heel (afflict his body – both on the cross and by afflicting mankind).
Through Jesus’ death on the cross, God took Satan’s authority (which Adam gave him) and gave it first to Jesus and then to every person who will believe – not only that Jesus died for them, but also that Satan has lost authority over them. We need to understand not only that Jesus died for us, but also that HE has redeemed us!
No matter what the devil tries to do to you, he is doomed to defeat, and you are redeemed and victorious over him through Jesus Christ.”
— Joyce Meyer, Battlefield of the Mind Bible - God curses the devil to be a snake for “all the days of his life.” He became the creature closest to the ground which is insulting that he can’t rule over anything – physically or mentally.
- Jesus died on the cross to defeat Satan for all of us. Satan no longer can defeat us, we will win against him every time if we trust God to fight with us against him.
- God tells Eve that her punishment will be painful labor during childbirth and her “desire and craving will be for [her] husband, and he will rule over [her].” (Genesis 3:16)
- God tells Adam that the ground is cursed because of his disobedience, and that he would eat the plants of the field. Then God says, “In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:19)
- God made Adam and Eve long coats of skin and clothed them. Then He said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us [the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit], to know [how to distinguish between] good and evil and blessing and calamity; and now, lest he put forth his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever –” (Genesis 3:22)
- God sent Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden to till the ground that they were created from.
- At the east side of the Garden of Eden He put the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to protect the Tree of Life.
- Cherubim — ministering spirits manifesting God’s invisible presence and symbolizing His action. (Joyce Meyer, Battlefield of the Mind Bible)
